| What is the NSR? The New Student Resource (NSR) is an annual publication produced specifically for incoming freshmen and junior transfer students by the Blue & Gold Yearbook, UC Berkeley's official historical record. The NSR provides a portrait of your peers in the incoming class and valuable information to help you succeed at Cal. As both a "mini-yearbook" and a reference guide, it includes student-submitted photographs and background information as well as essential information about the campus and city of Berkeley. How do I become a part of the NSR? The submission process for the 2008 NSR has ended. Please contact us ASAP with any inquiries about this publication. Do I have to pay to be included in the NSR? Absolutely not! All matriculating students may submit their photos and background information, and we encourage you to do so even if you do not wish to purchase a copy of the book at this time - your new friends will miss you! | Purchase a Copy Learn More Background and History Your Portrait Ordering Shipping Payment |

Background and History of the NSR top How large is the book? The NSR is an 8.25" x 11" full-color hard-cover book. This is an incredible value for only $20. The NSR is essentially a shorter version of the Blue & Gold Yearbook, our publication for the entire Berkeley campus community, which is approximately 320 pages and retails for $80. How many years have you been doing this? The Blue & Gold Yearbook has been in existence since 1875. It published its first publication specifically for new students in 1978. For many years, the publication was entitled the New Student Record. Effective in 2008, the name has been changed to New Student Resource to reflect the all-inclusive content of the book. |

Your Portrait top What picture should I submit? Does it have to be taken at a studio? Can I be wearing a red shirt with an S on it? We suggest you submit a head and shoulders shot. It does not need to be a professional print shot in a studio, but you should look your best, as this may be the first impression that you make on your new peers, and you will undoubtedly be keeping your NSR longer than your grass-stained, ripped t-shirt. We do not have any official requirements for photos, but we will be reviewing them prior to printing to maintain the professionalism of the publication. You recommend submitting a headshot. Should I crop my photo? Please crop your photo so that you are the focal point of the picture. However, take care to not crop too closely. The Blue & Gold will resize all submitted photographs to best fit onto the portrait pages, and we may need some extra space to accomodate this process. Will my picture be included in the yearbook? While your headshot will be published in the NSR, it will not be included in the Blue & Gold Yearbook. Due to the size of UC Berkeley, we only have space to include the portraits of graduating seniors. However, the Blue & Gold serves as a valuable record of the year for all enrolled students. It includes coverage of events, issues, student organizations, Greek life, and more. | ![]() |

Ordering top I submitted my information but didn't order a copy. Now I decided I want one. Can I still order? We will have a limited quantity of copies available for sale on campus in late August. I changed my mind and don't want an NSR anymore. Can I cancel my order? Since books are printed according to the orders received, we unfortunately cannot issue refunds. However, in the case of extenuating circumstances preventing the printing and shipping of books, you will receive a full refund. |
| Shipping top How do I receive my NSR? The New Student Resource will be distributed at the beginning of the Fall 2008 semester. When purchasing the NSR, you have the option to pick it up on campus for free or pay for shipping. On-campus distribution will begin during Welcome Week (details will be provided in late August via e-mail), but you can also pick up your copy anytime during the school year at the front desk of the Blue & Gold Office (located in 10D Eshleman Hall). When will I receive my yearbook? The Blue & Gold is a fall delivery yearbook: Because it covers the entire academic year, it does not arrive until early October. If you order a 2009 yearbook, you will receive an e-mail in September 2009 with exact pick-up dates; times; and locations. If you request that your yearbook be mailed, it will also be shipped in early October. If you miss the official pick-up dates, you can pick up your copy anytime during the school year at the front desk of the Blue & Gold Office (located in 10D Eshleman Hall). I want a package shipped to my parents, an NSR shipped to my grandma, and a yearbook shipped to my pet llama. I tried ordering these items, but I can't seem to select three mailing addresses. What should I do? At this time our software unfortunately does not allow a separation of mailing addresses, so we suggest you place three separate orders. | ![]() |
